Are you a doctor, detox centre, or rehab?+

No. Addiction Counsellor 4U is an independent counselling practice, not a medical facility, detox centre, or rehabilitation centre. We work alongside medical and psychiatric providers where needed, but we are not one ourselves.

Can you recommend a rehab centre?+

Yes. After meeting with the individual, we can suggest suitable rehabilitation options based on what we learn about their situation.

Can you recommend a psychiatrist?+

Yes, after an initial meeting. Some individuals do require psychiatric treatment alongside counselling, and we can point you toward an appropriate referral.

What's the difference between an addiction counsellor and a psychiatrist?+

A psychiatrist approaches addiction from a clinical, medical perspective. We approach it from an addict's perspective — because our counsellors have lived through addiction and recovery themselves.

Why should we come to Addiction Counsellor 4U?+

We provide the missing link between inpatient treatment and continuing recovery at home — which is exactly when most relapse actually happens.

When should we reach out?+

Before and after rehab treatment, if any is required. You don't need to wait for a crisis to have a first conversation with us.

Does an addict have to hit rock bottom before they can recover?+

No, not necessarily. Waiting for rock bottom is risky, since by that point it may be harder for the person to accept help. Earlier intervention gives a family more options, not fewer.

What if our loved one relapses after treatment?+

Relapse is often part of the recovery process, not a sign of failure. Many people come out of a relapse with a stronger, more honest commitment to their recovery.

Will the addict get angry or argumentative during counselling?+

It's uncommon once they identify with our counsellors as people who have been through addiction themselves. That shared experience tends to lower defensiveness rather than raise it.
